SUMMARY: Reports directly to the building principal and the Director of Student Support Services. Be responsible for routine student health service in a designated school environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs registered nursing duties including administering first aid and screening of all students who become ill or injured, evaluations and proper referrals, and maintaining comprehensive health records and usual programs of screening; e.g. vision, hearing, and growth.
- Performs registered nursing tasks in accordance with the Missouri Nursing Practice Act.
- Performs all registered-nurse and related duties in a conscientious, safe manner.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the building principal or his/her designee that are in accordance with the Missouri Nursing Practice Act.
- To provide care for accidents and illnesses of students, according to the policies set forth by the Board of Education; such policy being to give immediate care only and only requiring the parent to assume further responsibility.
- Maintains all the files and records, including necessary reports covering all phases of the Medical Department’s work.
- Establishes a student health program, as desired by the Board of Education, keeping in mind that the child’s health is the primary responsibility of the parent and not of the school district.
- Assists teachers in recognizing symptoms of illness and infection.
- Follow-up on the correction o defects.
- Assists teachers with information and materials in health education.
- Make time available for conferences with teachers, parents and groups in interpretation and follow-up.
- Be available for emergencies.
- Encourage compliance with immunization against other diseases.
- Work with counselors in referrals that have physical and mental aspects.
- Engage in health counseling—an important function of school nursing service.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Graduation from an appropriately accredited school of nursing, registered nurse (R.N. or L.P.N.) licensure in the State of Missouri
- Two years of nursing experience in various fields.
